Archaions is operated by an individual sole proprietor (the "data controller"). For any privacy question or request, contact [email protected].
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | To create and identify your account, send verification and account emails, and contact you about your account. |
| Password (stored only as a secure hash) or Google account identifier | To authenticate you. We never store your password in readable form; if you sign in with Google we store only an opaque identifier and your email. |
| Credit balance and transaction history | To operate the prepaid-credit system and show your usage and purchases. |
| Payment information | Card payments are processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card details; we store only a Stripe customer reference and records of purchases. |
| Sequence data you submit | Processed to produce your classification results. See "Your sequence data" below. |
| Basic technical data (e.g. IP address, request times) | To operate the service securely, enforce rate limits, and prevent abuse. |
| Device signals used to compute a device identifier (see section 11) | To count free analyses against a device rather than a browsing session, so that the free allowance cannot be reset by clearing cookies or opening a private window. |
| Server request logs (time, IP address, country as reported by our network provider, page or endpoint requested, referring page, browser user-agent string, response status and size) | To operate and secure the service, investigate faults and abuse, and produce aggregate visitor counts for our own use. |
Sequence data you upload or paste is used to perform the classification you request. Processing may occur on our servers and on third-party GPU compute infrastructure we use to run the classifier. We use this data only to provide your results and to operate the service. We do not sell it or use it to identify individuals. Where results are computed, intermediate data may be held transiently for the duration of processing and then discarded; we do not intend to retain your raw uploads longer than necessary to deliver results and support the service.
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process your data on the following bases: performance of our contract with you (to provide the service and accounts); our legitimate interests (to secure the service, prevent abuse, and improve reliability); consent where required; and compliance with legal obligations.
We use a small number of trusted third parties to operate Archaions. They process data on our behalf for the purposes described:
We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
Our providers may process data in countries outside your own, including the United States. Where required, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards offered by those providers.
We keep account data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account (see your rights below). Some records (such as transaction history) may be retained where required for legal, accounting, or fraud-prevention purposes.
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, contact [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including hashing passwords, encrypting traffic over HTTPS, restricting access to systems, and processing payments through a PCI-compliant provider. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We use the following cookies and similar storage. None of them are used for advertising, and none are used to track you across other websites.
| Cookie | Purpose and lifetime |
|---|---|
archaions_session | Essential. Keeps you signed in after you log in. Expires when the session expires or when you sign out. |
archaions_device | Essential for the free allowance. Holds a random identifier (not derived from anything personal) so that free analyses can be counted per device. It stores no personal data, is not readable by scripts, and lasts up to two years. |
Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_…) |
Analytics. Set when the page loads, for all visitors, and used to count returning visits. They are not used for advertising. |
| Cloudflare security cookies | Set by Cloudflare, our network provider, to distinguish automated traffic from real visitors and to protect the service. |
Archaions gives every new visitor a limited number of free analyses. To stop that allowance from being reset endlessly, the service needs to recognise the same device again. It does this in three ways, all of them for abuse prevention only:
archaions_device
cookie described above. These signals are used only to enforce the free allowance and to prevent abuse. They are not used for advertising, profiling, or tracking you across other websites, they are not sold or shared with advertisers, and they are not used to identify you personally. If you have an account, your analyses are counted against your account instead.
The service is not directed to children and is intended for users aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
We may update this Policy. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, by notice within the service.
